@Ilya: you can do it with Wordpress.com, but only for the specific case I was talking about.

It's under Dashboard >> Options >> Front Page Displays

It lets you change the front page to a static page and move the blog to a separate page.

Great for giving new readers an introduction.

@majic Hopefully Technorati won't be too picky, and follow redirects- and more importantly, hopefully Google will do the same. Although after reading a few Technorati horror stories, I'm not so sure.

@engtech: Unfortunately Wordpress does not allow redirects to the blog from subdirectories.
Now that I know a domain is important from the beginning, I think other projects will get their own domain names right away :)

One piece of advice, since you're hosed with technorati as well then change neomeme.net to be a landing page and put the blog at neomeme.net/blog

This gives great flexibility in the future, because first time readers can get an introduction to what your site is all about (and it also conveniently lets you link out to other projects you may have from the front page).

Congrats on the "acquisition"! Thing is though - you'll have a whole new set of registrations to make (technorati for one will see it as a different blog).
