I personally am happy Microsoft didn’t buy Yahoo! and that Yahoo! rejected them. Microsoft owning Yahoo! is far too scary and would lower my trust in Microsoft even more.

I heard AOL and Yahoo! might be partnering instead.

  21. online equity trading on February 15th, 2008

I’m so glad Yahoo didn’t accept the deal. Buying your way to the top is the wrong way to go, MS. Work hard, and put out a descent product, and maybe you’ll go farther.

  22. Acomplia on February 15th, 2008

Michael, i don’t think so! It was a perfect PR of M$

  23. Chevy Camaro Guy on February 15th, 2008

Either way, the both need improvement. They really need to combine powers so there is a number two, right now Google is on top and there is no second place or third.

I would like to see Yahoo’s publisher network succeed, right now it is failing. Something needs to be done!

  24. tv brackets on February 18th, 2008

  32. Convex Mirrors on February 28th, 2008

I wouldn’t be too surprised if this still happens, it looks like both companies are just manouevering into position to make the most of a merger.

  33. Online Budgeting on February 28th, 2008

I’m not sure this will work out best for the consumer. Having Microsoft running Yahoo service may not be the best thing for us.

  34. 360 Degrees on February 29th, 2008

I agree with Property Sale-no matter how it turns out, the users will pay any time there is any kind of monopoly, and each one that is bought out gets us closer to that day.

  35. Pet-a-holic on February 29th, 2008

UGH, why is everything merge, merge, merge all the time? We are slowly approaching a monopoly (probably a Google monopoly, in my opinion), just give it a little time…

I think microsoft are going to find it extremely hard to keep up with google at the rate they are progressing.

  40. Chris Stormer on March 9th, 2008

The action taken up by the Microsoft is a wise decision as it has already got the fame in the world of software. But its a request to microsoft to imrove the gaming section. Now it’s a mere requirement of time to give a tough competition to Google.

  41. iyinet seo on March 9th, 2008

Maybe that’s a good decision for Microsoft to buy Yahoo.
Let’s see what’s gonna happen next.. But I’ve heard the deal was not pursued..

  44. David Williams on March 13th, 2008

Its good to hear that microsoft has planned to buy yahoo. But this wouldn’t be fair. Both can’t go side by side. Yahoo is already having a tough compitition with google. It should be remained as it is. On the other hand microsoft has to improve itself as it is already famous for its software. It would be good that microsoft concentrates on the compititioins it has made.

  45. TT LoanShark on March 14th, 2008

  47. angilina on March 18th, 2008

Google is worried a bit about this deal. Lets wait and see what happens. At the moment, yahoo has denied the offer and said that the bid is low :)

  48. Clothing Guy on March 18th, 2008

    That’s a lot of money!!!

  49. Mike on March 18th, 2008

Its interesting how microsoft had a virtual monopoly on computer software, but then google was able to come along and basically has a near monopoly on internet traffic. It seems like it is very difficult for a single company to be able to maintain a monopoly. There will always be companies that find a way to cut into a companies share, even if it seems impenetrable at first.

  50. Jeff Gordon on March 19th, 2008

    thanks for the information

  51. David Williams on March 19th, 2008

It’s excellent to listen that Microsoft has considered purchasing Yahoo. However this would not be reasonable. Yahoo is previously having a rough struggle with Google. It ought to be lingered as it is.

  64. igreenspot on April 1st, 2008

  65. new zealand tourism on April 2nd, 2008

It is funny how this was big news all the sudden, then just as quickly it was gone.

  66. Wags on April 3rd, 2008

    It isn’t gone yet.

I think that a deal will eventually get done — these things don’t happen quickly.

Yahoo investors are in support of the sale, and the noise they’re making will probably hit a breaking point.

Yahoo has been setting themselves up to be attractive for investors for awhile now. Remember all the layoffs immediately before the Microsoft offer? That wasn’t a coincidence.

The Yahoo stock has skyrocketed, but only because of the potential acquisition. Microsoft won’t pay a premium on stock that is inflated only because of their interest.

They will likely wait until Yahoo’s first quarter numbers are released before adjusting their offer.

  67. Health Faculty Jobs on April 3rd, 2008

I don’t see this deal actually getting done. The entire idea was a move by Yahoo to drive up the stock and bring attention to themselves and it worked. There value now is much higher than it was before the Microsoft offer. So kudos to MS for strengthening there competitor.

  68. Melo on April 4th, 2008

Maybe they’re secretly working together to strengthen Yahoo? LOL! Anyway, I wouldn’t want MS getting their hands on good old Yahoo though…

  69. hollywood forum on April 5th, 2008

Even if Microsoft buys Yahoo, Google will still be king.

  70. Worlds Best Binoculars Blog on April 5th, 2008

@ hollywood forum: I agree and I think that’s why Microsoft has refused to raise their initial bid like Yahoo wanted them to. Yahoo has released some pretty optimistic projections for the next three years, but I can’t really see them eating up much of Google’s market share.

  71. Mark on April 7th, 2008

Looks like Microsoft is at it again. 44 billion! and Yahoo doesn’t think its enough? Love the games these two are playing. I have a feeling Google will step in eventually.

  72. Daniel on April 7th, 2008

wow!! microsoft wanting to buy out yahoo!!! how desperate an attempt is that? seems like google has gotten into their heads.

  73. Daniel on April 8th, 2008

looks like microsoft is dying to get into yahoo.

  74. Edward on April 8th, 2008

this is clearly a desperation attempt of microsoft.

  75. Andk on April 8th, 2008

If you would’ve told me about this 10 years ago, I’d laugh my ass off. Just as I am now.

I’ve always known Microsoft had it’s head in ass, this just proves it.

  76. Jesse on April 9th, 2008

microsoft really wants to sleep with yahoo and consequently heat up the markets.

  77. Asia'h Epperson on April 9th, 2008

Looks like we will have an outcome within the next few weeks. Microsoft is playing cagey by not releasing their board of directors list. I guess they want to wait till the last possible moment.

  78. Quentin on April 9th, 2008

yahoo, it seems is hell-bent on frustrating the attempts of microsoft. it has already wrapped a deal with AOL. and with google supporting them in managing their searches, it is gonna be a tough time for microsoft.

  79. Gus on April 10th, 2008

The relationship with the search engines over the years has always interested me. I can recall at one point when Yahoo used Google’s search algorithm, before they split ways. Now Yahoo! is trying to be bought out, and Ask just released 40 employees. The Search Engine Wars continue to remain strong.

  80. Funny posters on April 10th, 2008

  83. Daniel on April 11th, 2008

The search engine wars are one of the most interesting things currently taking place on the internet. Yahoo told MS to shove it , I think MS is getting deperate. Trying to get a grib on the internet market.

    mma clothing

  84. Chris on April 12th, 2008

That’s a ridiculous amount of money. Who knows that if this deal were to go through whether or not it would be a good or bad thing for the internet.

  94. Søkemotoroptimalisering on April 20th, 2008

I have been doing SEO (søkemotoroptimalisering) for many years now, and think that Microsoft have a lot to learn about search and how to satisfy users through their search technology. I have been using Google Adwords and I’m also a Google Certified Advertising Professional and have a lot of experience with Yahoo Search Engine Marketing and to be honest I don’t think Microsoft have the knowledge to build THE state of the art search engine. They are one of the most successful companies in the world, but have not been doing much lately for search engine marketing point of view. Besides of the monopoly situation and the negative effects I hope that Google will buy Yahoo! Google Adwords is a perfect program for search engine marketing and I simply love it! I’ll guess we’ll see a result of the ongoing “war” pretty soon! :-)

Next thing you know they will be buying the government….or have they?

  98. James on April 21st, 2008

Not gonna happen… definitely see them remaining in sole ownership of the yahoo trademark or a possible, although unlikely, google buyout.

  99. driving school worcester on April 22nd, 2008

Yahoo and Microsoft is a big fish in the world they both want to have there own name so yahoo dont want to loss to Microsoft, so Microsoft couldn’t buy yahoo now.

44.6 billions is a great amount. Even the Yahoo consider one of the best website in the world, but the market is dropping. In this case, sell it out might be a best choices

  108. Direct Home Find on April 24th, 2008

  109. Jeffrey on April 24th, 2008

That is alot of money, but if I was yahoo I wouldn’t do it ;). This deal monopolizes the industry WAY to much, and it wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing in any one else’s hands but in Microsoft’s it would become a HUGE problem!

  110. Theo on April 25th, 2008

Great Info. I wonder if bringing yahoo on board would actually hurt yahoo. It seems that all Microsofts web products are inferior so hopefully it won’t change yahoo as we know it to much.

  118. Bape on April 29th, 2008

What The! That is a lot of cash. But microsoft is way behind the eight ball when it comes to search engines so this would capture a good slice of the market if it goes through!

  119. ESCA Makeup on May 1st, 2008

Well, it didn’t go through. If Microsoft was smart, they’d go after another big fish. What would the ’sphere be like if they bought out Wordpress?

  120. Frontline on May 1st, 2008

I’m with Bape on Microsoft being way behind on search engines. Who uses MSN search these days?

  123. web hosting on May 7th, 2008

It now looks like the deal is not going to happen. A deal between Yahoo and Microsoft would have been such a good move for both companies. It will be interesting to see if they both try to make this happen again in the future.

  124. dropship on May 8th, 2008

I heard the deal wasn’t going to happen anymore. It’s going to be interesting to see what happens!!

  125. curtains on May 8th, 2008

For now, they withdraw. But I’m sure they’re gonna try it again later.

  138. White Noise on May 17th, 2008

I’m taking bets on how long it’ll take, if ever, before they actually go through with it.

  139. Kerrice Cuttie on May 19th, 2008

I read a news where it was mentioned that Microsoft buy Yahoo for $44.6bn in cash and shares.

  140. flip flops on May 20th, 2008

Microsoft will try to buy them again, only with more subtle approach this time.

  141. Paul on May 20th, 2008

Thats a lot of money, they must really hate google xD

  142. zohai on May 20th, 2008

LOL! Eating up another big company is a way of Microsoft fight against Google. Blah. Microsoft should just stick to their OS business domination and leave internet for google to have a slice =)

  143. free blogs on May 21st, 2008

This cannot happen. This is unacceptable. I guess I cannot take it if they combined.

  144. low male libido on May 23rd, 2008

I personally am happy Microsoft didn’t buy Yahoo! and that Yahoo! rejected them. Microsoft owning Yahoo! is far too scary and would lower my trust in Microsoft even more.

  145. Snorkeling Gear on May 23rd, 2008

I think I will sell my portion of yahoo to microsoft. I want a piece of that huge pie.

  146. bissell little green machine on May 24th, 2008

I think this is the best way for two of them to get closer to Google. Because right now, their piece of pie is just getting smaller and smaller.

  147. Shantanu Bala on May 24th, 2008

It’s good to see some competition arising for Google on the web playing-field. More competition = better stuff.

  148. Travel Octopus on May 25th, 2008

microsoft has so much money it doesnt know what to do with it.
but i think it woulda been good for both of them.

    Octopus Travel

  149. Eric on May 25th, 2008

Oh god, I hope this doesn’t go through! Yahoo, stay strong!

  150. Marc Klein on May 26th, 2008

The deal seems to be very exciting. now I believe that goole will come out with a very helpful product in the market soon.

  151. Rasterbator on May 26th, 2008

I am sad that the deal is canceled by yahoo

  152. Funny stuff on May 26th, 2008

I think a yahoo msn deal could be the only reasonable way google could be eliminated as a monopoly any time soon. If they don’t come together google is going to be powerful for a long time.

  153. Web Dev on May 27th, 2008

I’ve been using Yahoo since almost day one, have had an e-mail account there for more than 10 years now. I’m not sure, as a consumer, that I welcome the acquisition.

  154. Rolling Meadows homes for sale on May 27th, 2008

They really need to combine powers so there is a number two, right now Google is on top and there is no second place or third.

  155. Michael on May 27th, 2008

lol, that indeed and offer they should accept. so much money O-o

  156. Reverse Mergers on May 27th, 2008

The sad thing that though I prefer Google, I have to admit that Yahoo is way much better. Good deal.

  157. Bill G on May 27th, 2008

Would have been great competition for Google. Too bad it got axed.

  158. Myfinancebutler on May 27th, 2008

I think Yahoo, in the longer run is worth much more than that. I think it’s good that they declined — I think that avoided a possible thinning of the search engine market.

  159. Luca Govoni on May 28th, 2008

This collaboration helps lots of people in IT industry. As they don’t have to search for free Microsoft components big money involved uncountable zerosssssssssssss

  160. Illinois Homes on May 28th, 2008

Great post. i wish Microsoft would buy my website for that much.

  161. How to earn online on May 31st, 2008

This post is old. The deal fell through. You should probably post an update..

  162. JuLia on May 31st, 2008

Microsoft sure knows how to conquer the internet world!

  163. PC Sport Live on June 1st, 2008

Yahoo cannot challenge google in its current condition. But then would Microsoft aquiring it make much of a difference?

  164. Patrick on June 1st, 2008

This is old news. And I’m glad it didn’t push through. We need variety on the web. If it’s just Microsoft/Yahoo vs. Google out there, things are bound to get boring pretty quickly. It’s better for the internet in the long run to see two separate web heavyweights like Microsoft and Yahoo slugging it out with an upstart - a well-funded one if I might add - like Google.

  165. cellulite removal on June 2nd, 2008

Microsoft needs to do something…Gates even once said that Google scares him b/c they’re so much like Microsoft. The algorithm for MSN sucks…they do need some help in the search arena, no doubt. Maybe they should just stick to operating systems and biz software.

  166. Kristian Liebrand on June 3rd, 2008

That is a huge amount of money which Microsoft is pouring in to buy Yahoo and of course it is the biggest ever tech acquisition. I am will to see better results after the acquisition and wondering what would yahoo then be called as.
